Pure M reviews “Right”

no comment

Dave Simpson, of the music magazine Pure M, has reviewed my single “Right”. Here’s an excerpt:

“The affable four and a half minute offering is introduced through some soft but stirring electronics before an enticingly soothing serenade steps into the spotlight at the start of the serene first stanza. The ambience remains mellow and moving as the whole thing drifts gently in the direction of a wonderfully warm yet resonant chorus at the end of the opening minute.”

“This is succeeded by an introspective second verse full of friendly music and pleasant singing, all of which paves the way to a remarkably ethereal instrumental exhibition about three quarters of the way through. One last volley of vibrant vocals follows from here, setting the scene for a superbly powerful symphonic finish. The result is an incredibly commanding but cordial electro-pop piece that lives up to the high standard set by its predecessors. You can investigate “Right” for yourself on Furlong’s official website now, where it’s also available as a free download.”

Remy reviews “Right”

Here’s an excerpt of a review of my new single, from music review website, Remy:

“Last week Furlong released his latest single, ‘Right’, the first thing that struck me was how his vocal reminded me of Mercury Rev’s Jonathan Donahue, but also, in conjunction with the music, ‘Right’ led me to recall Moby’s ‘God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters’ from his 1995 album, Everything Is Wrong. As the track progresses you cease to notice Furlong’s vocal, and this is a good thing, if that makes sense, you have been so subsumed by the entire soundscape he has created that his voice becomes a guiding whisper in the far distance. I get the sense that he has a full box of tricks he’s just waiting to unleash on us.”

Anniversary of “Adventure”

no comment

It’s the anniversary of my album, “Adventure“!

To mark the occasion, I’m releasing a song that was not a single at the time of the album’s release. It is, however, a song I love and of which I am very proud.

The song is called, “The Stars Are Out Tonight”.

You can check out the song below. “Adventure” is available as a free download here.

Pure M reviews “Blinding Light”

no comment

Pure M has reviewed my new single, Blinding Light. Here are the thoughts of writer Dave Simpson:

For those that might have missed it, Irish artist Conor Furlong originally arrived on the scene in 2014 with his impressive inaugural album, Adventure. Since then, he’s kept himself busy by writing and recording more material, all of which he graciously gives away for free once it arrives on social media. After following up his debut record with the anthem “In Paradise” last year, he has returned with a brand new offering entitled “Blinding Light”.

Airy electronics introduce the track amid upbeat guitars and pleasant percussion. It all quickly increases in volume and velocity while emanating an affecting edge throughout the first forty seconds. It’s then that bright vocals begin to echo enthrallingly across the air, sounding simultaneously ethereal and optimistic. Another loud and lively instrumental sequence fills the void between the verses afterwards, feeling even more epic than the enlivening opening exhibition.

Things tone down approaching the midway mark as a collection of cool and compelling electronics take over. It’s not long though before the music regains its momentum, setting the scene for smooth and spirited singing to set in again. The speed stays extreme through the third minute as invigorating guitars step into the spotlight and excite until the entire thing arrives at a soft and serene finish.

This is a very natural evolution of the work already released by Furlong. He has managed to recapture the deep and meaningful mood that made his previous pieces so praiseworthy, while also succeeding in creating something that feels fresh and effective. You can experience the song for yourself on Soundcloud now.
